Midgame OSRS Money Making in Old School RuneScape

One of the most unique aspects of Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is its active and dynamic in-game economy. The game’s market is entirely player-driven, creating a living, breathing economy that mirrors real-world markets in fascinating ways. Unlike many other MMOs, OSRS truly nails the concept of a functioning economy. Money is integral to your experience, and understanding how to make it is key to progressing through the game.

For midgame players—those with combat stats in the high 70s to low 90s—there are many OSRS gold-making opportunities that not only provide significant rewards but also give players a chance to test their combat skills. In this guide, we will cover some of the best money-making methods for midgame players in OSRS as of January 2025.

1. Coliseum Wave 1 (Vorkath)

Though the Coliseum might seem like endgame content, Wave 1 is a viable money-making option for midgame players. To access the Coliseum, you’ll need to have completed the Desert Treasure quest and unlocked the Vorkath kill, which can be found in the Vorkath area. While many players focus on completing full waves for high-end rewards, for this method, we’re focusing solely on Wave 1.

Setup & Method:

For a relatively simple setup, you’ll want a Trident of the Seas (for magic), Dragon Dagger (p++) (for melee), and a Blowpipe (for ranged). You can also bring extra supplies like Ranging Potions and Prayer Potions, although they are optional. In terms of combat, you will start by attacking the Mage in the first wave with your ranged setup, followed by a switch to your melee gear for the next wave, and using your magic setup for the final wave.

This method guarantees around 1.5-2 million GP per hour, making it a solid and low-risk money maker. The key benefit is consistency—there’s no RNG involved, and the rewards (in the form of Sunfire Splinters) are guaranteed.

2. Wilderness Looting (Thieving)

Wilderness looting is often underappreciated, but it can be a lucrative way to make money while also training your Thieving skills. The best part? This method doubles as an excellent way to train Thieving—so while you’re making GP, you’re also leveling up OSRS Accounts.

Requirements & Setup:

You’ll need a minimum of 84 Thieving and access to the Wilderness (specifically, the Rogue’s Castle). I also recommend completing the Wilderness Medium Diary to unlock some additional loot bonuses. The hardest part of this method is the potential for player-killers (PKers) to attack you, so you’ll want to bring a looting bag to stash your loot if you’re attacked.

The key here is to loot the chests in the area while keeping an eye out for PKers. To protect yourself, bring Prayer Potions and use Protect from Melee prayers. If you do get attacked, your best bet is to die intentionally to a rogue spawn so you can retrieve your loot. As long as you’re cautious and prepared, you can rake in 2 million GP per hour while gaining Thieving XP.

3. Zalcano

Zalcano is a fantastic money maker for midgame players looking for both profit and a bit of variety in their gameplay. This boss drops valuable materials, including crystal tool seeds, and its loot is very solid.

Requirements & Setup:

To tackle Zalcano, you’ll need to complete the Song of the Elves quest, as well as having at least 70 Ranged and Smithing. The primary loot comes from common drops, but the crystal tool seed adds a nice random bonus. For the fight, you’ll need stamina potions, food for healing, and a solid team (2-3 players is ideal for speed).

When attacking Zalcano, you’ll need to switch between processing ores and attacking the boss. Zalcano can be somewhat challenging to kill solo due to its mechanics, but once you get the hang of it, you can make up to 2 million GP per hour. If you’re after an additional bonus, you can train your Smithing and Mining skills during the process as well, making this a dual-purpose method.

4. Vorago (Vorath)

Vorago is an excellent combat boss, with a high reward for skilled players. The method involves using a high DPS setup, such as the Dragon Hunter Lance or Toxic Blowpipe, depending on your budget. While the initial requirements for Vorago include completion of the Dragon Slayer 2 quest and strong combat stats, it remains one of the most efficient money-making bosses.

Requirements & Setup:

For Vorago, you’ll need a minimum of 80 Attack and Strength, and I recommend bringing a Dragon Hunter Lance for maximum efficiency. For the fight itself, you’ll want to bring Super Combat Potions, Antifire Potions, and Restores. Additionally, using Crumble Undead with a Slayer Staff will help to deal with the spawning undead mobs.

Vorago offers great rewards, including valuable drops like bones and rune items. The loot typically adds up to 4-5 million GP per hour, which makes it an exceptional moneymaker for players with mid to high-level combat stats.

5. Venomous (Veon) Boss

The Veon boss is located in the Wilderness and requires you to defeat a dangerous monster with high potential rewards. As a midgame money maker, it’s important to consider the risk of PKers in the Wilderness, but with the right preparation, the Veon boss can be very profitable.

Requirements & Setup:

While there are no formal requirements to face Veon, I recommend having at least 80 Attack and Strength to deal with the boss efficiently. Using the Void Waker blade can increase your kill speed significantly, but it’s not necessary. You’ll also want Super Combat Potions, Antivenom, and Restores for the fight.

The drops from Veon are valuable, and with each successful kill, you can earn 5+ million GP per hour. The loot comes from both common drops and rarer items, so while this method requires patience, the rewards are well worth the effort.

Conclusion

There are plenty of opportunities to make serious money in OSRS at the midgame level, and whether you’re interested in combat-based activities, Wilderness looting, or even training skills while earning GP or buy RuneScape gold, there’s something for every playstyle. As the in-game economy continues to thrive, methods like these will remain some of the most reliable ways to generate wealth and enhance your gaming experience.
